SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 3/4yd burgundy stretch velvet
  • 3/4yd cream satin
  • 1/4yd cream crinkle stretch polyester
  • 1 1/2 yds medium weight fusible interfacing
  • 9"x 12" cream felt sheets, 2
  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Sewing machine
  • Hot glue gun/glue gun sticks
  • Thread to match
  • Pattern template A and B

DIRECTIONS:

To find the downloadable patterns click on the "GET PATTERNS" tab above.

  1. Fuse wrong side of cream satin to medium weight fusible interfacing per packaging instructions.
  2. Cut (1) template A and (1) template B from stretch velvet and (1) of each from fused cream satin.
  3. With wrong sides together, baste velvet cut from template A to satin cut from template A. Fold in half with right sides together and sew along straight edge.
  4. Cut (1) 5 1/2"x width-of-fabric strip from cream crinkle. Sew short edges together to form a ring. Run a gathering stitch along both edges. Gather and pin in place to fused satin brim. The inner edge will be gathered much more than the outer edge of the brim. Baste in place.
  5. With right side of velvet facing gathered crinkle, pin the two brim pieces together and stitch along the outer edge of brim. Turn right side out. The stretch velvet should stretch to the underside of the brim the width of the seam allowance due to the rigidity of the interfacing.
  6. Pin inner edge of brim pieces together and baste in place.
  7. With velvet sides together, pin brim to hat top opening. Stitch around inner edge of brim. Cut a length of cream satin 2" wide. Turn under 1/4" on both edges. Hand stitch in place over exposed seam of inner brim.
  8. Create a tuck in the top of the hat about 1/3 of the way down from the point. Place a few stitches at several points along the tuck to hold in desired position.
  9. Cut a variety of different size circles from cream felt. Position around the outside of the hat to resemble a mushroom. Once the circles have been placed in the desired location, carefully hot glue in place.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Updated review I just reviewed this to state that the links were not working. I decided to try again and they started working. The "What you Need" information appears with the "How to make it" link. The pattern is the typical type where you print all the pieces, then tape them together. In my past experience, these work fine...just be careful to tape them together properly. Looks like easy to interpret instructions.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Where’s the costume pattern? You show this great Halloween costume and all you offer is a pattern for the hat!!! Where is the pattern for the whole costume? What company makes it? Poor advertising!!
