    1. Organizing Fabric Pieces:

      • Label the three sandwich plastic bags as follows:
        • Square in a Square Bag, Quarter Square Triangle Bag
        • Carefully gather the following fabric pieces that were cut from Fabric Cutting Chart and place in the bag indicated._x000B_

        • Fabric A:
          • Four 4 1/2" squares (Square in a Square Bag)
          • Two 5 1/2" squares (Quarter Square Triangle Bag)
        • Fabric B:
          • Four 2 1/2" squares (Square in a Square Bag)
        • Fabric C:
          • One 4 1/2" square (Square in a Square Bag)
        • Fabric D:
          • Two 5 1/2" squares (Quarter Square Triangle Bag)
        • Fabric E:
          • Four 2 1/2" squares (Square in a Square Bag)
    2. Sew Square in a Square Units:

      • Use pieces from the Square in a Square bag.
      • Refer to Diagram 1, following the steps below.
      • Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the four 2 1/2" Fabric E squares.
      • Pin two of the marked Fabric E squares on opposite corners of the 4 1/2" Fabric C square, wrong sides together, making sure corners match exactly.
      • Carefully sew over the drawn lines.
      • To check corner edges, fold outside corner of Fabric E towards seam and fold opposite corner over to cover Fabric C._x000B_If Fabric E and C corners do not line up, or if they are more than slightly off, re-sew.
      • Check the opposite Fabric E square in the same manner.
      • When corners line up, fold back over so seam is exposed and trim leaving a 1/4" seam allowance.
      • Press seam allowances toward Fabric E.
      • Sew a Fabric E square to the two unsewn corners in the same manner.
      • Press seam allowance toward Fabric E to yield one Fabric E/C 4 1/2" Square in a Square unit.
      • Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the four 2 1/2" Fabric B squares.
      • Pin one marked Fabric B to a corner of each 4 1/2" Fabric A squares, wrong sides together, making sure corners match exactly.

      • Press seam allowances toward Fabric D.
      • Do not snip off extending corner points.
      • Draw a diagonal line down the wrong side of two Fabric A/D half square triangle units as shown in Diagram 3.
