SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Cardstock or cardboard letters
  • Yarn
  • Hot glue gunĀ
  • Scissors

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut out 2 of each letter from cardstock or cardboard and hot glue them together to make a sturdy pattern for your yarn wrapped letters.
  2. Glue the end of your yarn to the backside of your letter. Begin to wrap yarn around the letter making sure that you are placing each new string close to the previously wrapped string.
  3. You can add small dots of glue to the back of the letter as you wrap so the yarn does not pull off.
  4. Continue wrapping to cover the entire letter, changing colors as desired.
  5. Make sure your anchored string does not come off the edge of the letter.
  6. You will want to wrap a second time with yarn to make the letter thicker and to make sure the letter is covered completely.
  7. Cut a 4" to 5" piece of string to hang your letters. Fold this in half and place a looped end around the letter and pull the two loose ends though the loop, tying a knot at the end.

  8. To make garland, use 6 strands of yarn, 3 of each color, and braid the 3 strands together. Tie the ends and hang your letters from the garland.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Use caution when using the hot glue gun. You can use toothpicks to help push the yarn onto the glue to hold in place.
