SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Assorted wooden ornaments
  • 1 each of Ceramcoat Acrylic Paint: bright red, medium foliage green, forest moss, light grey, black
  • Brushes, Artist Assorted Pack: #8 flat, #3 round, #5/0 liner
  • Palette
  • Ruler
  • Painters tape
  • Cutting Board & rotary cutter (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Apply light colors of paint first. Two coats of each color of paint will produce an even coat on the ornaments.
  2. For repeat patterns around an ornament, view the ornament from the top, looking down the length. Divide the circumference of the ornament into quarters. Place small pencil lines to indicate the quarter marks. Make marks between the quarter marks to further divide the spaces around the ornament.
  3. Attach ornaments onto a hanger with clothespins to hang dry between paint coats.
  4. Remove the acetate and backing from any photo frame ornaments prior to painting.
  5. Paint edges and backs of flat ornaments with the same colors as the front.
  6. Use painters tape to create crisp edges of paint. Tape may be cut into thinner strips if needed for curved areas of ornaments.

Dog Bone:

  1. Paint the entire ornament light grey.
  2. Let dry. Apply tape in horizontal lines and vertical lines next to one another.
  3. Remove the tape in alternate areas to create the checkerboard colors, one color at a time.
  4. Cut the tape into 1/8" strips using a rotary cutter.
  5. Apply strips over a dry, painted checkerboard pattern.
  6. These strips may run parallel to the checkerboard or at a diagonal.
  7. Paint between the strips of tape. Remove the tape immediately.
  8. Use a fine liner paint brush to add painted stitching around the perimeter of the dog bone.
