SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Perler Beads®
  • Perler® Bead Ironing Paper
  • Perler® Bead Pegboard:
    • Circle
    • Square
    • Star
  • Embroidery Needle
  • Embroidery Floss
  • Iron
  • Scissors

DIRECTIONS:

Download the templates for the holiday bead designs in the "GET PATTERNS" tab.
  1. Use a Perler bead pegboard with the templates underneath it to create holiday designs.
  2. When finished, cover the top of the design with one sheet of ironing paper.
  3. Turn an iron on medium heat and slowly run it in a circular motion over the ironing paper. This will fuse the beads together. Fusing the beads takes around 10 seconds, but the time varies depending on the kind of iron being used.
  4. NOTE:

Do not go higher in temperature and be careful not to melt the top of the beads closed. If they do close, poke a needle through the fused hole to add embroidery floss later.
  5. When finished, flip the pegboard over to have the fused design release and slide off.
  6. Iron the other side of the bead design using the same method as ironing the first side. Again, be careful not to close the beads together.
  7. Peel off the ironing paper from the previous side.
  8. Place the finished bead design under a heavy book or box and let the design cool. This is to prevent bowing.
  9. When the design is fully cooled down, thread an embroidery needle with floss, leaving a few inches of floss available to tie off when finished embroidering.
  10. With the template as reference, stitch the floss design through the beads. Try to hide the floss behind the beads so it is not seen.
  11. When finished with stitching, thread the floss back through the stitches on the back side of the beads and tie together the ends of the floss with a few simple knots. Then add a dot of hot glue to the back of knot to secure it in place.
  12. Finally, with new floss added to the embroidery needle, thread a loop at the top. This loop can be used to attach to ribbon, a gift, or to hang as a decoration.
