Try on jeans, mark the desired height of the crochet panels on the outer seam.
Lay jeans flat and use the seam ripper to open the stitching on the outer seam to this mark.
Open leg creating a triangle-shaped gap. Measure and/or trace onto paper, the size and shape of the opening.
Crochet two panels to fit the size of the opening using desired stitch or use the directions below for the open scallop stitch.
Block panels into their final shape prior to sewing.
Hand stitch panels into the opening of the jeans from the inside.

Open Scallop Stitch:

Chain in multiples of 4 +1 to reach the length of the base of the triangle opening.
Row 1: ch 1, sc in all chains
Row 2: ch 1, sc in the 1st sc, *ch 5, skip 3 sts, sc in 4th st, repeat from * until the end of the row.
Row 3: ch 3, sc in the 3 ch (at the top center of the scallop), *chain 5, sc in the 3rd chain of the next scallop, repeat from * until the last scallop. Ch 3, sl st in the final sc of the precious row.
Row 4: sl st first 2 sts, *chain 5, sc in the 3rd chain of the next scallop, repeat from * until the last scallop, ch 5, sc in 2nd ch.
