SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
  • rotary cutter & cutting board
  • 2' quilters rule
  • scissors
  • 8oz satin Mod Podge
  • 2 pack Mod Podge brush applicators
  • assorted tissue paper
  • 9"x 12" canvas panel
  • artist tape, to mount panel to mat board
  • 14"x 16" photo frame matted to 8"x 10"

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Layer desired colors of tissue paper, one sheet of each, lining up one long edge. Use a rotary cutter to cut 2, 3/8" &-; 1/2" strips through all layers. Use scissors to cut strips into lengths 3" &-; 4" long.
  2. Use applicator brush to apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to one third of length of canvas panel, approximately 4" up from one end. Adhere a row of strips across the Mod Podge area from side to side slightly overlapping strips. Stagger the ends so they are not straight across the inner edge. Apply another thin layer of Mod Podge on top of the strips. Repeat on the other end of the canvas. Allow to dry to touch.
  3. Cut 2-3 more 3/8" &-; 1/2" strips of layered tissue paper. Use scissors to cut strips into lengths 4" &-; 7" long.
  4. Apply the strips over the center of the canvas, overlapping strips and staggering the placement.
  5. Allow to dry overnight.
  6. Open frame and remove mat board with opening. Place canvas over back opening of mat board. Center image and ensure that lines of tissue paper run parallel to sides of mat opening. Apply two 2" strips of artists tape to the top edge of the canvas, half of the width of tape on canvas. Press the other half width of tape onto the back of the mat board. Place mat board into frame and reinsert back panel on frame.

JOANN HACKS:
  • Multiple layers of tissue paper create a deeper saturation of color.
