SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Marking pen
  • Quilters rule
  • Tape measure
  • Scissors
  • Quilting pins
  • Iron
  • Sewing machine
  • Thread
  • Trim
  • Cotton or linen

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Curtains with 6" pocket for rod.
  2. Length of fabric - add 9" to measurement from top of curtain rod to floor.
  3. Width of fabric - to be determined by width of window and desired fullness of fabric.
  4. Cut two fabric panels. Use quilters rule to mark 1" in from raw edges. Fold over the side lengths to the 1" mark. Sew close to edge. Fold over a second time the width of the first fold and sew close to edge. Fold over the tops and bottoms to the 1" mark and sew close to the edge. Mark 4" up on the WS of the bottoms. Fold the panels up to the marks and sew close to the edges. Mark 12" down on the WS of the tops. Fold the panels down to the marks and sew close to the edges.
  5. Press the fabric.
  6. Pin trim edging on RS of fabric in line with one finished side of curtain. Pin second trim on alternate RS of second curtain. Start the trim with the lowest tassel matching bottom edge of curtain when tassel is hanging down. Fold under the raw edges of the trim. Sew a wide stitch close to one side of trim edging. Remove pins as feeding into machine. Sew a second line of stitching on the other side of the trim edging.
  7. JOANN HACKS:

    • To minimize fraying of linen avoid over handling.
    • Pin trim every 2" to keep from shifting as sewing.
