SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1 yd. ea. Main fabric, Batting, Lining and Backing for Each Gift Bag, 12", 15" and 18"
  • 1/2 yd ea. Contrast for Bow
  • 1 yd. Iron on Interfacing
  • Velcro®
  • Basic Sewing Supplies

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut 2 ea. - 15"x 14" from main fabric, lining, backing and batting for 12" bag.
  2. Cut 2 ea. - 18"x 16" from main fabric, lining, backing and batting for 15" bag.
  3. Cut 2 ea. - 2"x 20" from main fabric lining, backing and batting for 18" bag.
  4. Cut 2 - 4"x 22" from main fabric for straps for 12" bag.
  5. Cut 2 - 4"x 22" from main fabric for straps for 15" bag.
  6. Cut 2 - 5"x 22" from main fabric for straps for 18" bag.
  7. Cut 4 - 2"x 22" from interfacing for 12" and 15" bag.
  8. Cut 2 - 2 1/2"x 22" from interfacing for 18" bag.
  9. From contrast bow fabric: Cut 1 ea. 5" x WOF for 12" and 15" bag.
  10. Cut 1 - 7" x WOF for 18" bag.
  11. Quilting and assembly will be the same for all bags.
  12. Layer bag back and front: backing, batting and front of bag right side up and pin.
  13. Quilt vertical lines 1" to 1 1/2" apart.
  14. With RST, pin front to back after quilting, and stitch along the two sides and bottom, 1/2" seam.
  15. Fold bottom corners up to meet side to form point for boxed sides.
  16. Mark 1" from point for 12" and 15" and 2" from point for 18" bag. Stitch across.
  17. Turn and set aside.
  18. Pin lining with RST, and stitch sides and bottom leaving an opening at bottom for turning.
  19. Pin and mark bottom corners for boxed sides same as done for outer bag.
  20. For straps: iron the interfacing to each strap.
  21. Fold strap in half lengthwise and press.
  22. Open up and press sides to center and press.
  23. Fold back again and press.
  24. Top stitch close to each side.
  25. Baste straps to main bag about 5" in from each side.
  26. Pin lining over bag with RST. Stitch across top using a 1/2" seam.
  27. Turn through lining and stitch lining closed. Insert lining into bag.
  28. Top stitch top of bag, 1/2" from edge.
  29. For Bow: fold in half lengthwise with RST.
  30. Cut a 45 degree angle at each end of bow.
  31. Stitch using a 1/4" seam along points and long edge leaving an opening for turning.
  32. Turn and press.
  33. Tie into bow.
  34. Cut velcro into 1" piece.
  35. Stitch one side to front strap and remaining side to opposite strap centering at top.
  36. Glue or stitch bow to front strap.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from typo in instructions there is a typo in the cutting instructions for the 18" bag. I just guessed and cut mine 22"x 20". The explanation for boxed corners was not very good.
