SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Three different coordinating fabrics 25"x 53"
  • Two pieces each of coordinating fabrics 13 1/2"x 13 1/2"
  • Foam Core or Cardboard:
  • Twelve pieces of 6"x 13"
  • Six pieces of 13"x 13"
  • Three pieces of 13 1/2"x 13 1/2"
  • Hot glue gun/glue gun sticks
  • Extra wide bias tape, double-folded in coordinating colors, 1 for each box
  • Sewing machine
  • Iron

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Fold each length of fabric, right sides together making the strip of fabric 12 1/2" and press with an iron.
  2. Sew a 1/4" seam on one end of the fabric.
  3. Turn out the fabric so that right sides are showing and press.
  4. Starting from the bottom of the folded strip of fabric sew seams at: 6", 13" 6", 6" 13".
  5. Slide the pieces of cardboard into the slots for a trial run.
  6. Using your hot glue gun, wrap the square piece fabric to the square piece of cardboard. Don't worry about the backside of the cardboard for it will not be seen.
  7. Slide the finished wrapped cardboard piece into the bottom of the container to make it ridge.
  8. Place newly formed box on top of the first 13 1/2" square piece of fabric.
  9. Pin the fabric to the bottom of the square box.
  10. Remove pieces of cardboard and sew the bottom onto the box.
  11. Slide the pieces of cardboard back into the slots.
  12. Measure your bias tape to fit around the top of the container, cut to fit with an overlap.
  13. Using your sewing machine, sew a 1/8" seam with the bias tape for a decorative finish.
  14. Lay the box on its side and hot glue the tape onto the top edge of the box to hide the edges of the raw fabric. Do this on the top inside edge as well.
  15. Overlap the end of the bias tape for a clean. finished look.
