DIRECTIONS:

NOTE: All seams are 5/8" unless stated
  1. Cut leotard out of Pierrot Fabric. The center front of the leotard can be on the fold.
  2. Circular skirt: Measure waist X 10" for the length. The easiest way to cut a circular skirt, is to trace the curve of a plate on to Kraft paper, adding or subtracting for the waist. Make the skirt 10" or the desired length of plus 1" hem and seam allowances. Cut out two skirts for front and back. Attach to waist or right under bottom of zipper, top stitch turning under seam allowance. Hem skirt. Attach Pom Poms about every 3" at hem.
  3. Adult neck ruffle: Cut two 30" long X 14 1/2" wide. Hem the edges of the 14 1/2" with a turn and turn hem. The ruffle will lay flat. Sew the 30" length together by folding in half, sew right sides together with a 1/4" seam allowance, and turn right sides out. Sew the other 30" length the same as the first ruffle. Steam do not press the seam to lay in the middle. Lay first ruffle on top of 2 ruffle, gather both together to equal the neck measurements. Sew satin ribbon on top of the middle seam extending ribbon 15" on each side of the ruffle to tie around the neck.
  4. Adult hat: Measure the around head. Draw a triangle 10" high X head measurements plus seam allowance. To get the curve of triangle so that it fits properly, measure the 10" on the sides then measure 10" in the center of triangle from the top point of triangle. Connect the sides with a curved line. Press heavy Pellon to Felt, sew seams right sides together, turn right sides out. Press seams.
  5. Do not hem the bottom. Sew or glue rickrack 1" up from the raw hem. Glue 3 Pom Pom on to hat. Measure the bottom of hat around the chin to other side of hat. Tack elastic to hat.
  6. Dog's Neck Ruffle: Cut two 30" long X 10". Follow the same sewing methods as the adult ruffle. The satin ribbon is cut the length of Dog's neck plus equal amount on each side for tie.
  7. Dog's Hat: Cut triangle 7" high X about 15" wide (depending of the size of Dog). Follow the same sewing procedure as the adult hat.
  8. Dog's leg Ruffles. Cut four 20" long X 5" high. Hem edges with a turn and turn hem. Measure the width of the dog's legs. Sew elastic in the middle to gather and make a ruffle. Stretch elastic as your sewing. Place gather ruffle around the legs making sure it fits (not tight or too loose). Sew the edges together to make a circle.

JOANN HACKS:

  • By not pressing the ruffle edges flat, it will make the ruffles have more volume.
  • Use a Ball Point #12 needle for the leotard.
