SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Paper Mache Box (circular for dog and snail boxes, square for butterfly box)
- Scrapbook paper, 12"x 12", in green, purple, pink, coral, yellow, blue, teal, dark pink, light pink, tan, brown, black, white, and any other desired colors
- Green paint
- Pink paint
- White Paint
- Paintbrush
- Multipurpose glue
- Black Sharpie® marker
- X-Acto® knife
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Pattern templates
DIRECTIONS:
- Dog Box
- Remove the lid from one of the circular boxes and set it aside.
- Use an X-Acto® knife to cut a 1"x 5" rectangle on the edge to create a slot for inserting cards.
- Trace the lid onto a piece of tan scrapbook paper. Cut out the circle and glue it to the front of the lid.
- Use the pattern templates to cut out the dog pieces.
- Glue the nose/mouth piece to the nose/snout piece, and the eye highlight to the black eye piece.
- Glue the face pieces in place on the front of the lid.
- Glue the ears to the side of the lid, then fold them toward the front and glue them to look like folded dog ears.
- Cut a piece of blue paper 8"x 4". Roll each end inward to create a scroll.
- Glue the middle of the paper to the bottom of the box to keep it from rolling.
- Dog Valentine Cards
- Use the pattern template to cut out the dog valentine pieces.
- Glue the two circle pieces together as the head and body.
- Glue the body to the top back of the front heart piece.
- Glue the second heart piece to the back of the first heart, sandwiching the dog between the two.
- Glue the two paws in place on the front heart.
- Glue the ears to the back of the head, then fold them forward and glue in place on the front of the dog's head.
- Glue the nose piece in place on the face.
- Use the sharpie to draw on the eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Use the white paint to add tiny highlight dots to the eyes. Allow to dry.
- Snail Box
- Remove the lid from one of the circular boxes and set it aside.
- Use an X-Acto® knife to cut a 1"x 5" rectangle on the edge to create a slot for inserting cards.
- Paint the box dark pink. Allow to dry.
- Trace the lid onto a piece of dark pink scrapbook paper. Cut out the circle and glue it to the front of the lid.
- Use the pattern template to cut out the snail pieces.
- Glue the spiral shell design to the front of the box lid.
- Glue the snail body to the bottom of the lid.
- Glue the antenna to the back of the snail head and then glue the face pieces in place.
- Glue the head to the top of the snail body.
- Snail Valentine Cards
- Use the pattern template to cut out the snail valentine pieces.
- Glue the snail body to the bottom back of one of the heart shell pieces.
- Glue the other heart shell piece to the back of the front shell pieces, sandwiching the body piece between them.
- Glue the antenna to the back of the head piece.
- Glue the head to the top of the snail body.
- Use the sharpie marker to draw on the eyes and mouth.
- Use the white paint to add tiny highlight dots to the eyes. Allow to dry.
- Buttferfly Box
- Remove the lid from the square box and set it aside.
- Use an X-Acto® knife to cut a 1"x 5" rectangle on the edge to create a slot for inserting cards.
- Paint the box green. Allow to dry.
- Trace the lid onto a piece of green scrapbook paper. Cut out the square and glue it to the front of the lid.
- Use the pattern template to cut out the butterfly pieces.
- Fold wing piece 1 in half and glue it to the front of the box lid.
- Fold wing piece 2 in half. Glue the wing 3, 4, and 5 pieces onto wing piece 2.
- Glue wing piece 2 on top of wing piece 1.
- Glue the butterfly face pieces to the butterfly head.
- Glue the butterfly head to the body.
- Glue the butterfly body piece to the middle of the wings.
- Cut out several small and large butterflies in desired colors. Fold each in half and glue to the box.
- Butterfly Valentine Cards
- Use the pattern template to cut out butterfly valentine pieces.
- Glue the two hearts together.
- Cut out butterfly pieces in the desired colors.
- Fold the butterfly pieces in half.
- Glue the small butterfly onto the large butterfly
- Glue the finished butterfly onto the green heart.
CRAFT HACK TIPS & TRICKS:
- Multiple coats of paint may be needed to cover the boxes.
- Spray adhesive can be useful when gluing larger sheets of paper.
