Not to bad

fit for small medium skeins

It works.
For what it’s made to do it does it. You do have to tweak a few things, such as if you don’t hold tension on the yarn coming from your skein it will not wind tightly. Be mindful of how hard you have turn the crank. If it starts giving resistance, the yarn cake is too heavy most likely, at least that’s what I found with the few I’ve done. I won’t say it’s my absolute favorite as this is the first and only yarn winder I own. I’m hoping to find a really awesome one one day but they seem to be pretty rare to find.
I will say the plastic it is made out of does not seem very sturdy, but that could just be the looks. All in all , it did what I needed it to do.

Don’t waste your money or your discount code.
I bought a “cheap” winder on Amazon and I thought this one looked better so maybe it would work better. Unfortunately, this was not the case. It is completely made of flimsy plastic. From the handle to the gears.
The handle bends with the lightest pressure when winding.
I liked that the base was wider or larger to allow for a larger cake, but the yarn still slips at the top of the cake. I had to wind the yarn twice and the cake was still wound correctly.
I liked that the gears were not visible to keep yarn from tangling in the gear, but the internal plastic gear slips when you put any tension on the yarn when winding. If there’s no tension the yarn doesn’t wind properly.
There’s a small screw and a wing nut to keep up with and it’s hard to get the wing nut tight enough against the bottom plate that holds it on your work table, so the winder wobbles when you wind the yarn. It looks like it will slip off the edge of the table. Since you can’t put any tension on the yarn, you probably wouldn’t have to worry about it slipping completely off though.
I will be returning this yarn winder. My “cheap” Amazon winder was more expensive than this one since I had a 60% off coupon. It’s definitely not worth $29.99.

Works in a pinch but not great.
Okay so if.you need to ball up some yarn it will do that. HOWEVER the components used to make this winder are not sturdy or durable. The plastic feels like it can snap at any form of resistance (while winding I had to turn the handle at the base of it towards the end of the ball because it was bending so badly), the gear inside that turns the cone jumps/skips a notch occasionally, causing an alarming grinding noise. It winds my yarn very loosely compared to my other winder. The balls it made were pretty I guess, and it did its job.
I don't believe this would stand the test of time. The plastic handle and shaft are flimsy and the loud gear jump noise makes me think it may break.
I only use bulky yarns like bernat blanket and velvet. Maybe this works perfectly with acrylic/cotton worsted (or smaller) weight yarns. I'm going to give this the benefit of the doubt, it's just not going to work for what I need it for.

Yarn winder not good
Looks good but it was too wobbly. One little screw would not tighten well. It needed held down to keep more steady on table. Did not wind smoothly.

SO GOOD
I was hesitant about purchasing this and at first I could only get it to make small cakes before the yarn would stop winding correctly. After trying a few times I was able to get it down and can get a whole 6 oz Big Twist Worsted Acrylic yarn into one cake which is amazing. Definitely buy this if you want a machine that can get big cakes but know that it might be a learning experience at first. SO GOOD!

I had been waiting for the winder to be listed online so I could review it. I absolutely love it. Super easy and quick to assemble. Makes perfect and beautiful cakes for center pull!
