SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Clean glass pumpkin
  • Spray paint: metallic copper, light orange, dark orange
  • Spray bottle
  • Vinegar
  • Soft cotton rag

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Make a solution of 1/2 cup vinegar and 1/2 cup of water in a spray bottle. Spray a full mist of water solution onto the pumpkin, trying not to let it run.
  2. With the dark orange paint, spray a light mist onto the wet areas of the pumpkin, inside the grooves. Using a soft cloth, dab off the water droplets, exposing the glass. Repeat this step until the grooves, now painted dark, stand out on the pumpkin.
  3. Tip the pumpkin upside down to spray the vinegar solution and spray dark orange paint around the bottom edge of the pumpkin.
  4. After all of those layers are dry, spray the vinegar solution again, followed by the light orange, just like the process with the solution and dark orange paint. Aim the light orange onto the ridges of the pumpkin, to act as a highlight. Again, dab the water painted spots with a cotton rag.
  5. Spray the inside of the pumpkin with the water solution and then spray it thickly with the metallic copper spray paint. Let everything dry.

JOANN HACKS:

  • If you spray too much paint onto the pumpkin and want a splotchy look, rub into the painted areas with the cloth to expose more of the glass underneath. The paint is still pliable. If you feel that you made a mistake, use nail polish remover to rub off where you sprayed the paint too thickly and then respray.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice idea BUT... ... nothing says where the glass pumpkin came from. It isn't one of Joann's (that I can find) and it has a very distinctive face. Without the base one can't begin to create this...
