DIRECTIONS:
Hat is worked in 2 steps from the brim upwards.
First the brim is worked back and forth in rows. Brim is folded and sewn into a ring then sts are worked along one edge of the brim ring and body of Hat is worked in rnds upwards.
HAT:
BRIM:
Ch 41 (45, 53).
Row 1 (RS): Esc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - you will have 40 (44, 52) esc in this row.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, working in front loops only, esc in each st across.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, working in back loops only, esc in each st across.
Rows 4-5 (7, 7): Rep Rows 2 and 3 for 1 (2, 2) more times.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Fold brim in half lengthwise with WS facing out, interlace folded ends together . With blunt needle and yarn tail, sew the ends together. Fold RS out.
BODY:
Join yarn with sl st to seam on inside edge of brim.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, working in back loops only, work 40 (44, 52) esc evenly spaced around inside edge of brim.
Place a st marker in last st made to indicate end of rnd. Move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnds 2-9 (9, 11): Ch 1, esc in each st around.
Next Rnd: *Sc2tog; rep from * around - 20 (22, 26) sts.
Next Rnd: *Sc2tog; rep from * around - 10 (11, 13) sts.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through top of sts of last rnd. Pull tail to close opening at top of Hat. Knot securely.
FINISHING:
Weave in ends.
