DIRECTIONS:

STITCH EXPLANATION:
sc2tog (sc 2 sts together) (Insert hook in next st & draw up a loop) twice, yarn over & draw through all 3 loops on hook - 1 st decreased.

TECHNIQUE EXPLANATION:
Magic ring: Wrap yarn around index finger.
Insert hook into ring on finger, yarn over & draw up a loop.
Carefully slip ring from finger & work the sts of Rnd 1 into the ring.

NOTES:
Flamingo is worked in 10 separate pieces: head/body, 2 cheeks, 2 wings, 2 legs, 2 feet, & a beak.
All pieces are worked in continuous rnds (spiral).
Do not join last st of rnds to first st with a sl st.
Do not turn at beg of rnds.
To change yarn color, work last st of old color to last yarn over.
Yarn over with new color & draw through all loops on hook to complete st.
Proceed with new color.
Fasten off old color.

HEAD/BODY:
HEAD:
With A, make a magic ring.
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in ring; do not join, work in continuous rnds (spiral).
Place marker in last st made to indicate end of rnd.
Move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Gently but firmly, pull tail to tighten center of ring.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each st around - you will have 12 sc in this rnd.
Rnd 3: * Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around - 18 sc.
Rnd 4: * Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around - 24 sc.
Rnd 5: * Sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around - 30 sc.

CHEEKS: (MAKE 2)
With B, make a magic ring.
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in ring; join with sl st in first sc.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing cheek to head.

BEAK:
With C, beg at tip of Beak, make a magic ring.
Rnd 1: Work 5 sc in ring; do not join, work in continuous rnds (spiral).
Place marker in last st made to indicate end of rnd.
Move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Gently but firmly, pull tail to tighten center of ring.
Rnd 2: Work 2 hdc in next st, sc in next 4 sts - 6 sts (2 hdc and 4 sc).
Rnds 3-6: Work 2 hdc in next st, sc in each st arouhd; change to D in last st of Rnd 6 - 10 sts (2 hdc and 8 sc) in Rnd 6.
Cut C. Work remainder of piece with D only.

Rnd 7: Sc in each st around.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing beak to head.

LEGS: (MAKE 2)
With B, beg at ankle, make a magic ring.
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in ring; do not join, work in continuous rnds (spiral).
Place marker in last st made to indicate end of rnd.
Move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Gently but firmly, pull tail to tighten center of ring.
Rnds 2-10: Sc in each st around.

KNEE:
Rnd 11: (Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) 3 times - 9 sc.
Rnd 12: Sc in each st around.
Rnd 13: (Sc in next st, sc2tog) 3 times - 6 sc.
Rnds 14-18: Sc in each st around.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing legs to body.

FEET: (MAKE 2)
With B, leaving a long beg tail for sewing foot to leg, and beginning at ankle, make a magic ring.
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in ring; do not join, work in continuous rnds (spiral).
Place marker in last st made to indicate end of rnd.
Move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Gently but firmly, pull tail to tighten center of ring.
Rnd 2: (Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st) twice - 8 sc.
Rnd 3: (Sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st) twice - 10 sc.
Rnd 4: Sc in each st around.
Do not stuff foot.
Rnd 5: Hold edges of last rnd together, matching 5 sts along each of 2 edges; working through both thicknesses, sc in next 5 sts.
Fasten off.

WINGS: (MAKE 2)
With B, make a magic ring.
Lower section (worked in rnds)
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in ring; do not join, work in continuous rnds (spiral).
Place marker in last st made to indicate end of rnd.
Move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Gently but firmly, pull tail to tighten center of ring.
Rnd 2: (Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st) twice - 8 sc.
Rnd 3: (Sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st) twice - 10 sc.
Rnd 4: (Sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st) twice - 12 sc.
Rnd 5: (Sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st) twice - 14 sc.
Rnd 6: (Sc in next 6 sts, 2 sc in next st) twice - 16 sc.
Rnd 7: (Sc in next 7 sts, 2 sc in next st) twice - 18 sc.

FINISHING:
Using photograph as a guide and yarn tails still attached to pieces whenever possible, assemble flamingo as follows:
With D, sew beak to head between Rnds 10 & 14.
With black embroidery floss, embroider eyes between Rnds 8 and 11, 8 sts apart.
With B, sew cheeks between Rnds 12 & 15.
With B, sew wings to side of body, around Rnd 29.
With B, sew feet to legs.
With B, sew legs to bottom of body.
Weave in ends.
