Intermediate 3-5 Hours

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Headband
  • Faux floral (various shapes and sizes)
  • Tall floral sprays
  • White faux leaves
  • White feathers
  • Tulle ribbon
  • 2"- 3" wide decorative wired ribbon
  • Wire
  • Wire cutters
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun / glue
  • Decorative button with pearl accents
  • Large pearl beads

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Choose the largest flower to be the focal point of the design. Trim the stem to 2"- 3" in length. Choose 4-5 other flowers and trim the stems to roughly 2"- 3" in length.
  2. Find the middle of the headband and hold the largest flower off to one side, a few inches down from the center, and secure in place with wire. Make sure to trim off any excess wire and tuck any edges so they don’t get tangled in the wearer's hair.
  3. Add more flowers layering them around the main flower and securing them in place with wire.
  4. Add the tall floral sprays, feathers and white leaves to fill in and add height.
  5. After you have the main floral in place, add tulle and ribbon to add more height and texture to the headband. Cut pieces of tulle and ribbon 8"- 12" in length. Fold them in half and knot the ends together. Add a dab of hot glue to the knot and glue between the flowers, onto the headband, under the flowers. Make sure to hide the knots within the flowers so only the looped ribbon and tulle is showing.
  6. Add the finishing embellishments by adding the large decorative button to the center of the main flower, adding pearls around the flowers and between the leaves. Hot glue in place. Make sure everything is secure and the headband is balanced.
  7. To finish off the bottom of the headband, cut a piece of ribbon 1" longer than the area that has exposed wires. Fold under 1/2" at either end and glue in place. Fold the sides in to be slightly wider than the headband and glue in place. Glue the ribbon piece to the underside of the headband with the folded under pieces so they are not visible. This will finish off the underside and also protect the wearer from getting their hair caught.

JOANN HACKS:

  • It’s a good idea to periodically put your headband fascinator on and check it in a mirror to make sure things are balanced and see where you need to make adjustments.
