Hydro Dipped Epoxy Tumbler

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
  • Plain drink tumbler
  • We R’ Spinner Tumbler Turner
  • Box of We R’ epoxy kit
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Paper towels
  • Small mixing cups, 2
  • Medium disposable mixing cup
  • 3 kinds/colors of spray paint that work together
  • Plastic bucket
  • Plastic trash bag
  • Wooden stirring stick or metal stick (preferred)
  • Medium paintbrush
  • Timer
  • Roll of electrical tape
  • Scissors
  • Heat Gun
  • X-Acto® knife
  • White spray paint
  • Sandpaper, various grits
  • Plastic gloves
  • Wooden skewer or stir stick
  • Ziploc® plastic bag for lid

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Paint the tumbler with the white spray paint and let it dry.
  2. Take the lid and place it in the Ziploc bag and then put it back on the top of the tumbler.
  3. Place the trash bag into the bucket and open it up pulling the edges over the top rim of the bucket.
  4. Fill the bucket up with warm water.
  5. Using the spray paint, Shoot 5 seconds blast of paint in the middle of the bucket of water.
  6. Spray the next color into the middle of the pool of color.
  7. Spray the last color into the middle of the water.
  8. Repeat all three colors with blast of color in the middle of the water.
  9. Quickly, lightly swirl the paint around on the top of the water to create a pattern that you like.
  10. With gloved hands, grab the tumbler by the baggie at the top and other hand holding at the bottom of the cup and completely submerge the cup into the water and roll it as you do it.
  11. Let it dry.
  12. Place the tumbler onto the We R’ turner.
  13. Make sure the tumbler is level before starting the rotation.
  14. Follow the instructions on the epoxy kit.
  15. Let the tumbler spin for at least 4 hours.
  16. You made need to put on multiple coats.
  17. Sand between coats.
  18. For final coat, put on a thin coat and press it with your gloved hand as you are wiping it onto the tumbler.

JOANN HACKS:
  • Use your heat gun to heat up Bottle A as you are pouring the two together into one cup. Stir with a metal stir stick (preferred) or wooden stick. Mix for three minutes and let it sit for 1 minute before applying.
  • Don’t over dip it! Only dip once or twice.
