SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Embroidery hoop, any size
  • Assorted yarn
  • Pony beads
  • Assorted craft items; pom poms, wood shapes, paint, etc.

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Separate the outer hoop from the inner hoop. To create the foundation of the weaving, start with the tail end of a medium weight yarn. Tie securely to the inner hoop, this will be the 12 o'clock position.
  2. Pass the yarn under the hoop at the 6 o'clock position and then back over the hoop in a figure eight motion.
  3. From the 6 o'clock position, proceed to the 1 o'clock position, than 7 and so forth in the same figure eight motion until spokes for the weaving have formed around the entire hoop. There should be an odd number of spokes. Trim yarn and tie back at the starting position. Fit hoop back into the outer ring.
  4. Beginning in the center, weave yarns over and under the spokes. Change colors as desired by simply adding a new yarn. Ends of previous color can be tucked to the backside.
  5. To add beads, string several beads onto a length of yarn before you begin to weave. Adjust spacing and placement of beads as you go.
  6. Once weaving is finished, you can decorate the hoop with paint, pom poms, wood shape cutouts or simply be wrapping the outer edge in yarn.
