Intermediate Weekend Project

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Cricut® machine (optional)
  • Coco doormat
  • "Hello Beautiful" stencil
  • Spray paint: black, bright pink, sweet pea pink
  • Home Decor white paint
  • Medium paintbrush
  • Bright pink paint marker
  • Spray adhesive glue
  • Old cardstock or paper big enough to cover the floor mat
  • Cardstock big enough to make two flower templates
  • Masking tape
  • Scissors
  • X-acto® knife

DIRECTIONS:

  1. With the cardstock, cut out templates for spray painting. You will need 3 of them. 1 circle for center of flower, 2 large petals, 3 small petals.
  2. You will cut out the base template first for the big petals. (You can use a Cricut® machine or scissors to do this.) Cut out half of the flower and then trace it to cut out the second half so that it is evenly cut on both sides. Tape both pieces together to make the flower pattern.
  3. Cut out a half circle to cover the center of the flower and spray it with glue. Press it firmly on the coco mat and it will be there the entire time while you spray paint it.
  4. Spray adhesive glue on the back side of the base flower petal template.
  5. Lay the template on the coco mat making sure the center is covered. Press firmly on the petals template. Tape old paper around the edges of the template to make sure you don't over spray on the coco mat.
  6. Spray paint the bright pink on the base petal template and let it dry.
  7. Place the smaller flower template on top of the first template mat covering the bright pink base petals. Make sure everything is covered except the smaller petal template. Spray paint with the sweet pea paint covering the smaller petals.
  8. Now remove the templates and the center template and paint the center of the flower with the chalk white paint and a medium paintbrush.
  9. Use the bright pink paint marker, dab dots around the base of the white center.
  10. Use the adhesive spray glue and spray the back of the word stencil.
  11. Press firmly the stencil onto the mat.
  12. Use paper or cardstock to cover the rest of the painted flower.
  13. Spray paint the letters with the black spray paint. Let it dry for a few minutes. Remove the stencil when lightly dry.

JOANN Hacks:

  • Make sure you cover any area that you don't want spray painted by the next color. Think of it in layers starting from the bottom layer to the top layer.
