CLOAK:
  1. Cut 1/2yd (18") off the bottom of the fleece and set aside.
  2. Lay the remaining 1yd of fleece flat and rotate it so it looks like a diamond, with a point at the top. Flip the top point down, the folded edge will be the neckline of the cloak. Determine how far down the fold should go by wrapping the folded edge around the child's neck, making the fold deeper or less deep until the side edges of the fleece meet at the base of the throat. Mark those two points, then trace the curve around the child's neckline onto the fleece, starting at one point and ending at the other. Lay the fleece flat, unfold the top point, and orient it again so that it looks like a diamond with the neckline point at the top.
  3. Fold the fleece in half vertically down from the top point to the bottom point. Cut the marked curve off the top of the fleece. Make the two sides even by cutting any excess material off the side edges.
  4. Measure from the center back of the child's neckline to the place you'd like the bottom of the cloak to hit. Mark that point on the cloak, measuring from the center of the neckline down. Draw a curve from the side point of the fleece to the mark at the bottom. Cut along that curve. Set aside and make the hood.
  5. Fold remaining 1/2yd of fleece in half widthwise. Draft a rectangle on the folded fleece. For the width, measure the folded neckline of the cloak and add an inch. For the height, measure from the neckline to the top of your child's head and add 2". (Alternatively, you can reference one of your child's jackets and measure the height of the hood and add 1".) Round out one of the top corners by placing a cup snug in the corner and tracing its edge. Cut out through both layers of fleece. Keep rectangles matched together, and sew along the top edge, the rounded corner, and down the long side edge with a 1/2" seam allowance. Trim seam down to 1/4".
  6. Attach hood to cloak: Open the hood so that the bottom edge is flat. Line the bottom edge of the hood up with the cloak neckline, right sides together. Pin and sew with a 1/2" seam allowance. Trim seam down to 1/4".
  7. Hand sew hook and eye closure onto cloak at neckline.

VEST:
  1. Cut out 1 pattern on the fold.
  2. Line up the shoulder seams and glue the front to the back on both shoulders.
  3. Starting at the center back, pin the binding around the outside side ending back at the center back. Glue the binding to vest starting on the inside and then glue the front of binding. Use a small bead of glue.
  4. After the main vest is glued, add the binding around the armholes starting at the back of each armhole. Glue in place on the inside and then on the outside.
  5. Foam Leaf Pin:
  6. Draw a simple leaf about 3" wide on the back of the green foam sheet, and cut it out with detail scissors. Make the leaf simple so that it reads well and easily. Cut out a slightly smaller leaf on the glitter green foam sheet and attach it on top of the bigger leaf. Cut out the thin detail vein of the leaf in the brighter green foam and glue it on top of the green glitter leaf with the Quick Grip glue.

JOANN HACKS:
  • Cut the leaf out using the Cricut machine. If you use the Cricut machine, you can upload a leaf image and size it to be 3" wide. Peel the backer paper off the pin back and center it on the back of the leaf.
  • You can use a Crayola washable marker instead of a disappearing ink pen; the washable marker will remove off the fleece with water. Test on a piece of scrap before using.
