  • 1yd Flannel for Backing (pre-washed)

DIRECTIONS:

TO KNIT THE DIAGONAL BLANKET:
  • K = Knit
  • YO = Yarn Over
  • M1 = Make 1 - Knit 1 in the front and back of stitch

Cast on 3 stitches
Row 1: K1, M1, K1 (4 stitches).
Row 2: K1, M1, K2 (5 stitches).
Row 3: K1, M1, K3 (6 stitches).
Row 4: K2, YO, K4 (7 stitches).
Row 5: K2, YO, K to end of row.
Repeat adding 1 stitch at the beginning of each row. (YO stitch) until you have 150 stitches (or desired size) on your needle.
This is your center point of the blanket. You will now start to decrease stitches.
Decrease row: K1, K2together, YO, K2together, K to end of row.
Repeat decrease row until 6 stitches remain.
Next row: K1, K2together, K2together, K1 (4 stitches).
Bind off.
Tuck in ends with a yarn needle.
To add fabric backing:
Lay finished blanket out on a flat surface, being careful not to stretch blanket.
Measure blanket from the INSIDE of the yarn over holes.
Cut flannel back 1" larger than your measurement.
Press under 1/2" around all four sides.
Lay flannel back onto knitted blanket RS up, pin or baste in place.
Hand stitch or machine stitch flannel to knitted blanket.
To hold flannel to blanket, use yarn and yarn needle to tie together approximately every 6" (or as desired).
Tuck yarn ends into knitted blanket.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Using circular needles to knit a blanket helps to hold a large number of stitches on your needle. Simply knit back and forth as your would with straight needles.
  • Knitted blanket can be blocked before adding flannel back. Follow manufacturer's directions and wash blanket, reshape, and dry flat.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from more detailed instructions would be nice No real details of what size the blanket should be or how to attach the flannel.
