Fabric Patched Jean Jacket

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Purchased jean jacket
  • Various fabric remnants
  • 1/2" fusible seam tape
  • Scissors
  • Ruler/measuring tape
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Matching and/or contrasting thread

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Refer to photo for patch placement ideas.
  2. Large Back Patch
  3. Sew various pieces together to fit between back seams of jacket; turn under edge seams 1/2" and machine edge stitch, hand blind stitch or use contrast thread to whip-stitch patch in place.
  4. Outside Elbow Patch
  5. Cut an oval patch to cover elbow area, turn edge under 1/2", pin/ baste to sleeve, and hand blind stitch or use contrast thread to whip-stitch patch in place.
  6. Distressed Area Patch
  7. Cut patch at least 1/2" larger than distressed area; follow manufacturer's directions and fuse tape to RS edges of patch; fuse patch to WS of jacket under distressed area; trim away some of the threads so more of the patch shows through.
  8. Front Pocket Patch
  9. Cut patch shape from fabric; turn outside edges under and hand blind stitch or use contrast thread to whip-stitch patch in place.
