  • 1/4yd fabric for outer and lining of basket
  • 1/2yd Pellon® 808 Craft-Fuse 20" interfacing
  • Basing sewing supplies
  • Sewing machine with walking foot
  • Ruler

DIRECTIONS:

  1. For 6" basket: cut (1) 17"x 8" rectangle, (1) 5" circle and (1) 2 1/2"x 15" rectangle each out of outer, lining and interfacing. For 8" basket: cut (1) 23"x 10" rectangle, (1) 7" circle, and (1) 2 1/2"x 17" rectangle each out of outer, lining and interfacing (1/2" seam allowance is included).
  2. Apply interfacing to lining circle, large and small rectangle, following manufacturer's instructions.
  3. Sew large outer rectangle to large lining rectangle on one long side. Under-stitch seam allowance to outer fabric side of seam. This will be the “top" of the basket.
  4. Sew the sides of the basket right-sides together, leaving small hole in lining fabric for turning. Press seam open.
  5. Sew circles to corresponding openings in lining and outer right-sides together. Trim seam allowances to 1/8". Turn piece right-side out. Sew hole in lining closed and push lining into outer shell. Press basket well.
  6. Sew small rectangles right-sides together on long sides only. Turn piece right-side out and press well. Topstitch 1/4" on each long side. Finish each short edge with serger or small zigzag stitch. This piece will be the handle.
  7. Place handle edges 1 1/2" down from top edge of basket on the inside. Stitch small edges of handle to basket by machine. Fold over top edge of basket 1" to cover handle stitches.
