Intermediate Weekend Project

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • House fabric, 1/2 yard
  • Roof fabric, 1/2 yard
  • Inside fabric, 1/2 yard
  • Blanket fabric, 1/4 yard
  • Felt sheets, 9"x 12", in desired colors
  • Scissors
  • Sewing machine
  • Water soluble marker
  • Pattern templates
  • Hot glue gun
  • Various decorative trims, buttons, and other items for decoration
  • Quilt batting
  • Iron
  • Velcro

DIRECTIONS:

  1. To find the downloadable pattern click on the "GET PATTERNS" tab above.
  2. Cut out the front house and roof pieces. With right sides facing, sew together along one of the long edges. Open and iron flat.
  3. Cut out the door and two windows from felt and sew them to the front of the house.
  4. Lay the outside house piece on top of the quilt batting and inside fabric. Cut the batting and inside fabric to the same size as the exterior house piece. Set aside the outside house piece and batting.
  5. Cut out the furniture pieces from felt.
  6. Position the headboard onto the inside fabric piece and sew around the edge.
  7. Lay the mattress piece on top of the headboard and sew it in place.
  8. Lay the pillows on top of the mattress and headboard piece and sew them in place.
  9. Cut two pieces of blanket fabric, slightly larger than the bed. With right sides together, sew along three edges. Turn right side out, and iron flat. Fold down the top and iron it down.
  10. Position the blanket at the bottom of the bed, and sew along the bottom edge only.
  11. Lay the footboard piece on top of the blanket and the rest of the bed. Sew down the side, bottom, and up the other side, leaving the top unstitched.
  12. Cut the nightstand and lamp pieces out of felt. Sew detail stitching onto the nightstand.
  13. Position the nightstand next to the bed and sew it in place.
  14. Position the lamp stand and lamp shade pieces on top of the nightstand and sew them in place.
  15. Cut the armoire from felt. Position it in place and sew along the outer edge. Sew along the interior lines, to secure the piece and ensure that the doors can open.
  16. Cut out the rug pieces from felt. Lay the pieces one on top of another and sew them in place. Place the rug under the armoire and sew it in place.
  17. Cut out the handle pieces, and with right sides together, sew along the long edges. Turn right side out and iron flat. Set aside.
  18. Cut out the tab pieces, and with right sides together, sew along three edges, leaving one short end open. Turn right side out and iron flat. Sew a small piece of Velcro to the end. Set aside.
  19. Place the outside house piece and inside house pieces with right sides together. Sandwich the handle between the two pieces at the top of the dollhouse, and pin in place. Sandwich the tab between the two pieces at the side of the dollhouse, and pin in place. Place the quilted batting on top of the two pieces and pin in place.
  20. Sew along the edge of the piece, leaving a hole for turning.
  21. Turn the piece right side out, and iron the edges flat.
  22. Hand stitch the hole closed.
  23. Cut the dolls out of felt. Use two layers of felt, sewn along the edge, for the body.
  24. Cut out the doll hair from felt. Place the hair front on the doll's head and sew along the inside edge. Place the doll’s hair back onto the dolls head and sew along the outer edge.
  25. Cut out the doll’s dresses from felt and decorate as desired.
