SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1 Basket
  • 1/2 yard of spring cotton fabric
  • 1 Roll of iron-on vinyl - white
  • 1 Roll of iron-on vinyl - teal or pink
  • Sewing machine
  • White thread
  • Pencil
  • Iron
  • Cricut® machine
  • Straight pins

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Lay fabric right side down on a flat surface.
  2. Lay basket on top of fabric. With a pencil, outline the basket with a 1/2" allowance around the bottom of the basket. Cut out this circle.
  3. Measure the sides of the basket and add 3". This dimension is for the side of the basket liner. Measure the circumference of the basket. Add 1" to the length. This is the length of the liner for the basket.
  4. Cut out the side piece for the liner. Placing the right sides together, fold in half and sew a 1/2" seam at the ends.
  5. Open up the sewn circle and pin it to the bottom circle piece, right sides together.
  6. Place the liner in the basket and overlap the fabric over the top rim of the basket.
  7. Creating the bias trim/edge of the liner. Cut 2 pieces of fabric, 2" wide x the width of the basket + 6" on each side.
  8. Using your iron, make a bias tape. Fold piece lengthwise in half and press with your iron.
  9. Open the fold and fold each side to the center seam and iron. Fold it inward again and press.
  10. Center the finished bias tape in the edge of the basket liner. Pin it in place, leaving tails on each end for the ties.
  11. Create the name for the basket on the Cricut® machine using Design Space. Cut it out of the white iron-on vinyl. If you need the word to stand out more, cut out the name again, using a slightly larger font and accent iron-on vinyl.
  12. Iron the white name onto the accent iron-on vinyl. Iron on the completed name in the center of the top rim, front edge of the basket liner.
  13. Tie the bias tapes together at the edge of the basket.

JOANN HACKS:

  • To get a clean finished stitch, line up the edge of the bias tape with your presser foot on the sewing machine, when sewing it on the basket liner.
