SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Simplicity pattern 8729 (follow pattern envelope and instructions for exact fabric amounts)
  • 1/8 yd. of Gold Fabric
  • Scraps of white for teeth and scraps of fusible
  • Scrap of black for eye
  • Small amount of stuffing

DIRECTIONS:5/8" seam allowances unless otherwise stated.

  1. Cut crown spikes from the pattern View B, cutting spikes apart or using one spike for a template. Cut 2 for each spike, enough to go on hood and down center back. Sew spikes with a 1/4" seam, stuff slightly. Close spike with a straight stitch.
  2. Add a 5/8" center back seam for adding spikes. Add as many spikes as wanted to center back and center back seam on hood.
  3. Teeth: Cut 8 small triangles out of white scraps, 4 fusible. Press fusible to 4 white triangles. Sew triangles together to make 4 teeth. Turn, press. Sew teeth to front of hood.
  4. Eyes: Cut a shape of elongated dragon eye, press fusible to gold, sew black small strip for pupal to gold eye, stitch to hood near the teeth.
  5. Finish cape as instructed on pattern instructions.
