    • Sew all seams 1/4" from edge of fabric or drawn line. Test your seam allowance by cutting two 3 1/2" squares of extra fabric. Sew them together end to end to make a rectangle. Press seam allowances to either side. If the rectangle measures 3 1/2"x 6 1/2", your seam allowance is correct. If not, adjust where you line up the edge of your fabric with the edge of presser foot.
    1. Organizing Fabric Pieces:

      • Label the three sandwich plastic bags as follows:
        • Square in a Square Bag, Flying Geese Bag, Finishing Bag
        • Carefully gather the following fabric pieces that were cut from Fabric Cutting Chart and place in the bag indicated._x000B_Fabric A:
        • One 7 1/4" square (Flying Geese Bag)
        • Four 3 1/2" squares (Finishing Bag)
      • Fabric B:
        • One 6 1/2" square (Square in a Square Bag)
      • Fabric C:

      • Fabric E:
        • Four 3 1/2" squares (Square in a Square Bag)_x000B_NOTE: Fabric D will not be used on this block.

    2. Sew a Square in a Square Unit:

      • Use pieces from the Square in a Square bag.
      • Refer to Diagram 1, following the steps below.
      • Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the four 3 1/2" Fabric E squares.
      • Pin two of the marked Fabric E squares on opposite corners of the 6 1/2" Fabric B square, wrong sides together, making sure corners match exactly.
      • Carefully sew over the drawn lines.
      • To check corner edges, fold outside corner of Fabric E towards seam and fold opposite corner over to cover Fabric B._x000B_If Fabric E and B corners do not line up, or if they are more than slightly off, re-sew.
      • Check the opposite Fabric E square in the same manner.
      • Once edges on both corners have been checked, trim bottom two layers, leaving a 1/4" seam allowance.
      • Press seam allowances toward Fabric E.
      • Repeat to sew the remaining two Fabric E Squares to the opposite corners.
      • This will yield one 6 1/2" Square in a Square unit.
      • Put the unit aside.

    3. Sew Four Flying Geese Units:

      • Use pieces from the Flying Geese Bag.
      • Refer to Diagram 2, following the steps below.
      • Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the four 3 7/8" Fabric C squares.
      • Pin two of the marked Fabric C squares over opposite corners of the 7 1/4" Fabric A square, right sides together, making sure corners line up and that the drawn lines overlap.
      • Sew 1/4" from both sides of the drawn lines.
      • Cut apart on the line to make two separate units.
      • Press seam allowances toward Fabric C.
      • Snip off extending corner points.
      • Pin a marked 3 7/8" Fabric C squares to the remaining corner on each of the two sewn units.
      • Sew 1/4" from both sides of the line.
      • Press seam allowances toward Fabric C.
      • Snip off extending corner points._x000B_This will yield four 3 1/2"x 6 1/2" Flying Geese units.
