DIRECTIONS:

  1. Tutorials/Templates
  2. Ranunculus:
  3. Cut petals and leaves from crepe paper, using template.
  4. Start by hot gluing a styrofoam ball to the end of a floral wire.
  5. Start with the smallest size of petals, gently start to stretch the crepe paper giving the petals a more realistic shape.
  6. Run a small line of hot glue across the base of the petal.
  7. Starting at the base of the styrofoam ball, slightly overlapping petals, glue petals around until the styrofoam ball is covered.
  8. Continue to add petals, increasing in size, until you reach the desired size and shape.
  9. Wrap the floral tape around the stem, adding a leaf or two to finish.
  10. Poppies:
  11. Cut petals and leaves from crepe paper, using template.
  12. Cut 1" strips from crepe paper. These are going to be the stamen.
  13. Using your scissors, cut and fray the 1" strip.
  14. Roll the frayed strip into a coil, using a small bit of hot glue, insert the floral wire in the center base of the coil.
  15. Stretch petals adding some curl to the petals.
  16. Start adding petals, piercing the floral stem through each and glueing to the petals to the base of the coil.
  17. Continue to add petals, increasing in size, until you reach the desired size and shape.
  18. Wrap the floral tape, starting closest to the flower, around the stem. Add a leave or two as you go.
  19. Roses:
  20. Cut petals and leaves from crepe paper.
  21. Using pencil-shaped tool, roll the edge of the petal.
  22. Stretch and shape petals, opposite direction of the petals curl, for a more realistic shape.
  23. With the first petal, add a small drop of glue on the side of the petal. Place the floral stem in the glue and begin or roll the petal up around the floral stem.
  24. Continue to add petals, slightly overlapping, and rolling to create a rose shape.
  25. Wrap the floral tape, starting closest to the flower, around the stem. Add a leave or two as you go.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Watch the grain of the crepe paper when cutting the petals. This will determine if the petals stretch vertically or horizontally.
  • Petals don't have to be exactly the same size, having some variance gives a more realistic look.
  • You can use a piece of crepe paper to cover the styrofoam ball first, before adding petals.
  • You can use a marker to add color to the stamen of the poppy flower, as well as petals if you choose.
