SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Clear Christmas ornaments with removable top (various sizes)
  • Assorted acrylic paints, green, white, red
  • Pom poms, red, white, green in assorted sizes
  • Hot glue gun/glue gun sticks
  • Pipe cleaners (red, white, green)
  • Scissors
  • Medium flat paintbrush
  • Water & paper towels for paint clean up
  • Twine
  • Wooden Skewers
  • Styrofoam piece (any scrap piece around 2" thick for drying)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Decorate the ornaments by painting and adding embellishments. Create a few of each design, varying the colors and looks of each ornament:
  2. Cover the exterior with pom poms using hot glue to secure in place.
  3. Remove the top from the ornament and fill with assorted pom poms.
  4. Paint the ornament with acrylic paint a solid color. Do this by removing the metal top from the ornament and applying thin coats of paint. It may take several coats to create solid coverage. Put the bulbs onto wooden skewers stuck into styrofoam to dry between coats.
  5. Use hot glue to add a small bead around the base of the metal hanger and wrap with the end of a pipe cleaner. Continue gluing and wrapping the pipe cleaner around the ornament until it is completely covered. Create a solid look with one color or use multiple colors to create a striped pattern.
  6. Cut a piece of twine the desired length of your garland leaving some excess for tying in place.
  7. String the ornaments onto the twine through the hanger. Vary the ornaments as you add them.
