Caron Simply Soft Knit Color Burst Scrunchies

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

• Caron® Supplies:
• Simply Soft® or Simply Soft® Brights: 6 oz/315 yds
• Neon Pink or Iris or Blue Mint: 1 ball (will make 5 scrunchies)
• Susan Bates® Supplies:
• Yarn Needle
• Split-Lock Stitch Count Markers
• Standard Elastic Hair Ties: Approximately 1 1/2"

SIZE:
To cover standard hair tie, it needs to be approximately 1 1/2" diameter

GAUGE:
18 sts & 24 rows = 4" in stocking st.

NOTE:
Scrunchie is worked flat & then sewn around hair tie.

DIRECTIONS:

Cast on 18 stitches (sts).
1st row: (Right side - RS). Knit to end of row.
2nd row: (Wrong side - WS). Purl to end of row.
Repeat (rep) last 2 rows for stocking st (Knit on RS rows. Purl on WS rows) until work from beginning (beg) measures 18", ending on a purl row.
Cast off knit wise, leaving a long tail for seaming.

FINISHING:
Lay work flat with RS facing up.
Sew cast on & cast-off edges together (tog) to form loop.
Do not break yarn.
Fold side edges of loop around hair tie, gathering scrunchie lightly to fit around hair tie.
Sew side edges tog using mattress st (see diagram)
Fasten off & hide tail inside scrunchie.
Mattress stitch.
