SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 100% cotton fabric for mask
  • 1/8"-1/4" wide elastic
  • Pattern template (download PDF under print description above)
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Download the pattern by clicking “download PDF" below Print Description on the right.
  2. Cut out patterns using cutting directions on the pattern
  3. Seam allowance is 1/4" unless stated otherwise.
  4. Match outer mask pieces right sides together, and sew the outer curve. Repeat with lining pieces.
  5. Open both mask halves and press both seam allowances to the right.
  6. Topstitch down the seam allowance, about 1/4" from the seam.
  7. To make elastic ear coverings, cut two 6" pieces elastic and cut two 1"x 11" pieces fabric for cover of elastic.
  8. Fold fabric in half lengthwise and sew a scant 1/4" seam on outside edge. Turn.
  9. Thread the elastic through the tube as if you were making a scrunchie, except sew both ends of elastic to the open ends of tube ending with straight piece with fabric scrunched over it.
  10. Lay one half of the mask down with the right side facing up. Pin the ends of the elastic in each corner, placing them 1/2" up/down from the top and bottom edges. The elastic should extend toward the middle of the mask.
  11. Match front and back pieces right sides together, nesting center front seams.
  12. Pin and sew around the exterior of the mask, leaving a small opening at the bottom of the mask between the center front seam and corner.
  13. Clip across corners, taking care not to cut through the stitching.
  14. Turn mask right side out and press.
  15. Topstitch around the mask, closing the hole at the bottom in the process.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pattern doesn't match photo I loved this mask photo but the pattern doesn't match the photo, the pattern ends at the chin, not underneath. I found the same pattern on all the photos that have loops for the ears vs ties.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it I had been looking for a mask with this design to try. I like that it has the different sizes in the pattern and the ruler. When I read the review that said the elastic needed to be adjusted, I opted to extend the pattern by an inch on the sides. Glad I did or it would have been too small for my husband and son. It is perfect for me and my daughter for our smaller faces. My sister and I have been using this for the past week. We sew by hand and found this was easier than the pattern with pleats. Thank you for the free pattern!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Grammar It should read How to Make an Artist Mask. Plus, the elastic for the ears seems a bit short and it should be noted to adjust the length as needed.
