For adult bucket hat:
- Cut (4) brims, (2) 9 1/4" circles and (2) 26"x 5" rectangles out of cotton fabric and (2) brims out of interfacing
- Apply interfacing, following manufacturer’s instructions to wrong sides of 2 brim pieces. These will be on the outer hat layer.
- Sew brim pieces short ends, RST, in sets of two. Sew each rectangle in half, RST, to form a tube. Press seams open.
- Sew circle to each tube, RST. Sew tube to smaller circumference of brim, RST. Repeat for second, non-interfaced "hat", which will serve as the lining. Trim seam allowances to scant 1/4" and press seam allowances toward crown.
- Place lining hat into outer hat RST. Stitch around outer brim circumference, leaving a small hole to turn. Trim seam allowance to scant 1/4".
- Turn piece RS out and press well. Edge stitch around brim, then 1/4" away from the first stitching line. Topstitch 1/8" above where crown and base attach. This will hold the outer and inner "hats" together.
