Beginner Under 1 Hour
SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
  • 100% cotton fabric
  • Knit fabric
  • Small safety pin
  • Pattern
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:
  1. To find the downloadable pattern, click on the "GET PATTERNS" tab above.
  2. Cut pattern twice on the fold of the cotton fabric. Cut two 1 1/2"x 14" pieces from the knit fabric.
  3. Match the two cotton pieces right sides together. Sew the curved sides using 3/8" seam allowance.
  4. Press seam allowance to one side and top stitch seam allowance flat.
  5. Adjust mask so that the curved seams meet in the middle. Pin and sew along the top and bottom edges. Leave a small opening on the bottom to turn the mask right side out.
  6. Clip the corner seam allowance to reduce bulk.
  7. Turn mask right side out and press.
  8. Fold the sides in about 3/4", press and stitch along the edge to create a casing for the strap to go through. Top stitch across the top and bottom edge, closing the hole along the bottom.
  9. Stretch the knit strips so that the fabric rolls up into a tube. 1" in from one end, pin a safety pin through the fabric (perpendicular to the fabric works best).
  10. Fold the 1" end up so there is two layers of knit at that end. Guide the safety pin through the casing in the mask from top to bottom. Once the safety pin emerges, expose about 1/4-3/8" of the knit loop. This will be the loop that the rest of the strap feeds through so the mask can be adjusted.
  11. Stitch along the bottom of the casing to secure the loop in place. Remove safety pin and repeat for the other side.
  12. Thread the loose end of the knit strap through the loop using the safety pin. Trim the length of the excess strap if desired and knot the bottom to prevent the strap from coming out of the loop.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Pattern not to scale This pattern is not to scale. When printed, the 4 inch measurement was only 3 inches. It would require advanced skills to correctly enlarge this pattern.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Adjustment Idea Although I can see where some people might have problems understanding the straps portion of the instructions, the 3rd picture explains it well. It's a novel idea and requires no additional notions to make it adjustable. That being said, ALL of JoAnn's mask patterns should have a picture of the fitted mask - by itself - so you know what kind of ties/elastic it will have. Models with hair over their ears are not helpful at all.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Horrible instructions I found the downloadable pattern which others seemed to have a hard time finding. But the instructions are very poorly written. The 2 pictures of the mask helped. Would only recommend to a friend if I could show them the one I made as a sample and explain.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No pattern Where is the pattern?? Come on, is no one monitoring this website and reviews?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from pretty poor Very poor instructions. Even if you click on print pattern it's only the pattern. They do not tell you how to make the adjustable loops. Search google. There are a lot of free patterns with these instructions online. Pretty poor for a company that makes tons of money off fabric and craft supplies.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Needs pictures! The download is simply the pattern to be cut out. The instructions shown are all there is, but I need illustrations to show what is being talked about. The photo shows a very loose mask, and I'm wondering how those ties work to tighten it. I was hoping the instructions would show some interesting and easy way to adjust a mask, but I can't make head or tail of it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Harder than it was advertised The pattern was way more difficult than advertised and wasn’t a good fit when it was done.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Where is the actual pattern? I've tried to print this several times, but there is no pattern.
