Intermediate Weekend Project

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Rotary Cutter and Blade
  • Cutting Mat
  • Clear Acrylic Ruler
  • 1/2 yard cuts - 5 or more cotton fabrics
  • Coordinating Thread
  • 1" Bias Tape Maker
  • 1/2" Bias Tape Maker
  • Basic Sewing Supplies
  • Fabri-Tac
  • Iron
  • Ironing Surface
  • 2 bottles Liquid Fabric Stiffener
  • Plastic Container
  • Drying Rack or Clothes line
  • 22" x 28" foam board
  • Straight Pins

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut and press 40 (24 - 1/2" when double folded, 16 - 1/4" when double folded) strips of double fold bias tape following the instructions included with the bias tape maker.
  2. Sew the folded strips using coordinating thread color along the open edge.
  3. Trim bias strips to 22"
  4. In the plastic container, saturate the strips in the liquid fabric stiffener. Squeegee off the excess liquid with your fingers. Hang to dry for several hours.
  5. Once dry, iron strips straight and flat.
  6. Divide strips into 8 piles of 3 wide and 2 narrow strips.
  7. See video for how to weave the star together. Use pins to hold the pieces in place until you are ready to glue.
  8. Once star is glued together, trim ends.
  9. Nest two stars together and tack together in the center.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Instructions The idea behind this craft is lovely, however, both the written instructions as well as the too short and poorly executed video omits too many details to make this project successful. I finally figured it out, but it took way to much time on my part for trial and error. In addition, the final product poised on top of the tree has additional elements that are not discussed. This project is for a seasoned crafter and certainly not for a beginner/intermediate one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Incomplete instructions The video shows the weaving/construction for just seconds. The written project also does not go into enough detail to complete this project. Just glad I didn’t go out buy the supplies prior to watching the video. I am a lifelong crafter and am very capable. Look at your details.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Incomplete instructions Not sure what the foam board is for and there is no video for how to weave the strips together. A neat looking craft, but the picture doesn't give enough information to make up for incomplete instructions.
